Health is one of the most important assets a young person has. It has long been known that there is a correlation between health and wealth. When this was first examined it was postulated that this was because wealthier people had access to better health care. Further research has shown causation actually goes in the other direction. Poor health tends to be very detrimental to one’s wealth. Medical insurance and disability insurance are crucial in protecting a young person’s wealth. If you ever get the chance to push this message home to young people please take it.

From USA Today,

Adults younger than 35 are nearly twice as likely to be uninsured as adults 45 and older, according to a report by the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association. Twenty-seven percent of young adults in their 20s have no health insurance, according to a poll conducted by USA TODAY and the National Endowment for Financial Education.
